Terms & conditions
Last updated:
In the event of any conflict between the Norwegian and English versions of these Terms, the Norwegian version prevails.
1. Introduction and acceptance
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern the relationship between you and Yem AS (“Yem”, “we”, “us”) when you use the Yem service, available at yemapp.com and as a progressive web application.
By creating an account or using the service, you accept these Terms in their entirety. If you do not accept the Terms, you may not use the service.
These Terms should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect and process personal data.
These Terms are governed by Norwegian law. As a consumer, you have rights under Norwegian law that are always applicable, even if these Terms were to state otherwise.

2. About the service
Yem is a digital household service that helps you and your household members organise everyday life - including tasks, calendar, shopping lists and messages.
Beta
Yem is currently in public beta. This means the service is under active development, new functionality will be added, and existing features may be changed or removed. You may experience errors and instability during this period.
We take your data seriously. While we cannot guarantee error-free operation, we commit to doing our best to prevent data loss and prolonged outages. If something goes wrong, we will inform you as soon as possible.
Availability
We aim for the service to be available at all times, but cannot guarantee uninterrupted operation. Planned maintenance and unforeseen outages may occur. We will give advance notice of planned outages where possible.
Development of the service
Yem is under continuous development. We reserve the right to change, add or remove features. Material changes that affect the core use of the service will be communicated to you in advance.
3. Account and terms of use
Requirements to use the service
To create an account in Yem you must be 15 years of age or older. We verify your age at registration. If we discover that a user is under 15 years of age, the account will be deleted without notice.
Registration
You are responsible for ensuring that the information you provide at registration and in your profile is accurate. You are not required to provide your legal name, but the information may not be used to mislead other household members or Yem.
Account security
You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity that occurs on your account. If you suspect that someone else has gained access to your account, you must change your password immediately and notify us at privacy@yemapp.com.
Children under a parent account
Support for children under the age of 15 linked to a parent or guardian’s account is not available as of today. When this feature is introduced, the Terms will be updated with specific provisions for this.
4. Subscription and payment
Trial period
All new accounts receive a free 30-day trial period. No payment information is required to start the trial period. After expiry, a paid subscription must be taken out to continue using the service.
Subscription plans
Yem is offered with monthly or annual billing. Annual billing provides a discount equivalent to two months free. When a subscription is taken out, you will be charged automatically at the start of each new subscription period.
Changing your plan
You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from the service settings. A change takes effect immediately: an upgrade is prorated against the time left in your current period, and a downgrade applies the corresponding credit to your future billing. Changing your plan does not reset your billing date.
Payment
Payment is handled by our payment provider Stripe, or, for subscriptions bought through the Yem Android app, by Google Play. We never store your card details - these are processed directly by Stripe or Google on their secure payment pages. For subscriptions bought through Google Play, billing, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are managed by Google under Google Play’s terms.
Cancellation
You can cancel your subscription at any time via the settings in the service. Upon cancellation, you retain full access to the service until the end of the current subscription period. No refund is given for remaining time in a paid period. Subscriptions bought through Google Play are cancelled in the Play Store rather than in the service settings.
After the subscription expires, your household is kept in read-only mode for 90 days so you can download your data. After 90 days, the household and all associated content is permanently deleted.
Right of withdrawal
When purchasing digital services, you have in principle a 14-day right of withdrawal. If you wish to start using the service immediately after purchase, you consent to the right of withdrawal lapsing once the service has been delivered and taken into use.
Price changes
We reserve the right to change the subscription price. You will be notified of price changes at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not accept the new price, you can cancel your subscription before the change takes effect.
5. Acceptable use
You are responsible for all use of the service on your account. Yem must be used in accordance with these Terms and applicable Norwegian law.
The following is not permitted:
- using the service for unlawful purposes or in a way that violates Norwegian or international legislation
- uploading or sharing content that is unlawful, offensive, threatening or otherwise harmful to others
- attempting to gain unauthorised access to the service’s systems, databases or other users’ accounts
- disrupting or attempting to disrupt the normal operation of the service, including through the use of automated tools, scripts or other software
- impersonating another person in a way that is misleading or harmful
- sharing your login information with others
Consequences of violations
Violations of these rules may result in temporary suspension or permanent deletion of your account. Where possible, we will notify you and give you the opportunity to export your data before any deletion - see section 7.
6. Content and rights
Your content
All content you create in Yem - tasks, calendar events, messages, shopping lists and other content - belongs to you. You retain all rights to your own content.
In order to deliver the service, you grant Yem a limited, non-exclusive and royalty-free right to store, process and display your content solely to the extent necessary to operate the service. This right lapses when you delete the content or your account.
Your data is yours
We believe your data should be easy to take with you. You can at any time export your content in open formats via the settings in the service, including iCalendar for calendar data and CSV and JSON for other data. These formats are widely used and can be imported into other services.
Yem’s rights
The Yem service, including code, design, logos and other content developed by us, belongs to Yem AS and is protected by intellectual property legislation. You are granted a limited and non-transferable right to use the service in accordance with these Terms. This right does not give you ownership of any part of the service.
Feedback
If you send us feedback, suggestions or ideas, we may freely use these to further develop the service without any obligation to you.
7. Cancellation and termination
Account deletion
You can delete your account at any time via the settings in the service. Upon account deletion, your personal data and the content you have created will be deleted in accordance with the Privacy Policy. Please note that messages you have sent in shared conversations will appear under the name “Deleted user” after deletion.
Certain invoice and transaction data must nevertheless be retained for a period after deletion in order to comply with statutory accounting obligations under the Norwegian Bookkeeping Act. See the Privacy Policy for more information on retention periods.
Cancellation of subscriptions is described in section 4.
Termination of account by Yem
We reserve the right to suspend or delete an account in the event of serious or repeated violations of these Terms, misuse of the service, or if we are legally required to do so.
Where possible, we will notify you before a termination takes effect and give you the opportunity to export your data. In cases where immediate termination is necessary - for example in the event of serious misuse or security incidents - this may occur without prior notice.
Your termination rights
You can cancel your subscription at any time, cf. section 4. In accordance with the Norwegian Digital Services Act (digitalytelsesloven) § 33, a continuous agreement cannot be made non-terminable for more than six months at a time. Yem’s annual subscription plan has a commitment period of twelve months, but offers a proportional financial benefit in the form of a two-month discount, in accordance with the requirements of the Act.
8. Limitation of liability
Availability of the service
Yem is provided “as is” and “as available”. We make no guarantees of uninterrupted or error-free operation, but we commit to doing our best to maintain stable access and prevent data loss, cf. section 2.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by Norwegian law, Yem’s total liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid for the service in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Yem is not liable for indirect losses, consequential losses, lost revenue or loss of data caused by your own use or actions.
Exceptions
The limitation of liability does not apply in the event of:
- gross negligence or wilful misconduct on the part of Yem
- breaches of data protection law caused by Yem’s fault
- rights you have under Norwegian law as a consumer that are always applicable, even if these Terms were to state otherwise
9. Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date of the most recent update will always appear at the top of the document.
For material changes - for example changes that affect your rights, subscription terms or our limitation of liability - we will notify you by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. If you do not accept the changes, you can cancel your subscription and delete your account before the new Terms take effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date will be considered acceptance of the updated Terms.
For minor editorial changes, the Terms will be updated without specific notice.
10. Governing law and disputes
Governing law
These Terms are governed by Norwegian law. As a consumer, you have rights under Norwegian law that are always applicable, regardless of this choice of law.
Dispute resolution
If you have a complaint or question about the service, we encourage you to contact us at privacy@yemapp.com. We aim to resolve all enquiries in a fair and orderly manner.
If we are unable to reach an agreement, you can bring the matter to the Norwegian Consumer Council, which offers free mediation in consumer disputes: www.forbrukerradet.no (opens in new tab). An overview of dispute resolution bodies in EEA countries is also available at: consumer-redress.ec.europa.eu (opens in new tab).
Disputes that are not resolved through mediation may be brought before the ordinary Norwegian courts.
